I'm assembling a list of things I'd like to do on the new 145 when I take delivery this Saturday. The only known problem I have to tackle is some kind of low RPM fuel or timing issue. The car tends to die when the choke is pushed back in, and the RPM's get lower. I'm thinking of trying to rebuild the carbs.
Short of that, here's a list I've put together so far.
ENGINE
01. Flush coolant
02. Flush oil and convert to Mobil 1?
03. Flush transmission, convert to synthetic?
04. Rebuild SU carbs
05. Remove and Steam clean engine and transmission (filthy)
06. Inspect and adjust timing (plugs, wires, distributor are new)
07. Rebuild and reinstall original heater valve (replaced with aftermarket)
INTERIOR
01. Find suitable foam replacement for front seats
02. Install dynomat and new carpet
EXTERIOR
01. Find new rubber inserts for original aluminum wipers
02. Remove defroster lines from rear tailgate window
I have a garage and engine lift at my disposal. Is pulling the engine for a thorough cleaning, fluid change, and random seal replacement overkill? I feel like it will give me a chance to go over everything and catch stuff I don't yet know about.
If anyone has recommendations for how to accomplish any of the items on my list, let me know. Are there any other drive train things I should be considering if I do a pull?
