I've located a B20 engine for sale that the owner describes as follows:

"bored and honed .030 over, crank is .020 over, new mahle pistons with balanced crank, street performance isky cam and new bearings. the head has had new valve seats cut and new guides put in. it's ready for new valves and springs to be installed."

The owner claims that the work was done by an auto mechanics instructor at the local community college, though whether that's a good thing or not is an open question. The .030 overbore seems typical, from what I've heard, but I don't really get why the crank would need to be ground .020 over.

I took a look at it today - it looks complete and the workmanship appears tidy. I didn't have a chance to disassemble anything or check clearances, and frankly I don't know enough to make an informed evaluation.

Any suggestions as to what I ought to be looking for when I go back for a second look-see?
