Just got this car - 1984 244 DL. A few questions to the community 200 1984

Hello. I've been a long time Volvo owner with four of them owned over the last 15 years. Still own two, an '98 S70 and '93 945. And now I was donated the third one. The 1984 244 DL. It's a tan sedan with only 140K miles on her. she needed a battery right off the bat, but started and ran from Albany, NY to my home in Pioneer Valley, MA (about 80+ miles). she ran rough at first, but after getting a fresh tank of gas a lot of roughness went away making me think the gas in the tank went bad from sitting around. this car is intended to be my 18 year old son's first car. It seems to be in decent shape, but lots of things need attention. The PO is my wonderful neighbor, so the history is probably available. The car was owned by my neighbor's twin daughters who just could not keep it running.

So here are a few questions.

1. The car does not go into overdrive. Is this an electrical issue? If not, can I repair that easily?

2. Is there a flame trap on this car like on my 940? If so, I should probably clean it.

3. What is the timing belt change interval?

4. The climate controls seem to not function. Easy fix?

Those are immediate issues, I am sure I will find more. I also probably need to buy a good manual for it. Ideas?

TIA!
