Background:
I'm attempting to bench test a J-type O.D. in preparation of transplanting it into my 1800ES (currently BW35). The trans/OD/and shift extender are assembled. I have the wire harness from the 4-pin disconnect all connected to the fourth gear limiter, OD solenoid, and reverse gear backup light switch. All the wiring buzzes out as it should according to the wiring digram. The first time I applied 12V, the OD solenoid wanted to click regardless of what gear it was in. The 4th gear limiter was faulty (constantly closed) I replaced it with another old one I had and now it clicks only in 4th as it should.
Problem:
When I apply 12V to energize the OD solenoid, while at the same time spinning either the trans input or OD output shaft, it clicks but I don't feel any change in ratio. Is there an internal oil pressure requirement in order to initiate OD upshift, or does it sound like something is screwed up in the OD?
Also, is there any maintenance recommended for the OD, like a filter change or something?
