Temp. Indicator 700

Having problems with temp indication. While I was driving 90 Volvo 780 Turbo the indication would go from center of scale range an flicker downward after about 5-8 min. of running down highway. It acts almost like coolant resovoir is relieving pressure. Any Ideas on what may need to be corrected?
