Ignition points / ignition problems 140-160 1974

I could use some help on this problem. I have what seems to be an intermittent ignition problem. The engine ran last week, but now it won't start. I have adjusted the points numerous times and am pretty sure I have them dialed in correctly now (nominal gap 0.45 - 0.40 blade goes in easily, 0.50 is tight). I removed the two front spark plugs and ran on starter (with ignition on) and had no spark on either plug. Points are new, rotor, cap, capacitor, plug wires and spark plugs are all new. I noticed the points do not break current flow completely when open, are they supposed to? I measured 565 Ohm resistance with the points open, just enough to dim a test light. Another peculiarity - the positive terminal on the ignition coil is connected to the ignition points, not the negative. I guess it doesn't make any difference. My inclination now is to start replacing components in this order, to see if I can get a spark: Ignition coil, capacitor, points. Any suggestions for additional troubleshooting? Should add that I have a dwell angle meter and have previously confirmed that I had the point gap set correctly, but I've had a lot of problems with the points working out of the set position.

Thanks,
Kåre
