I removed the coil and checked the resistance between the + and - terminal. It was only 4 Ohm. I then checked the resistance from + to the high-voltage output and likewise, - to high voltage output. In both cases it was infinite. I will go to the junkyard tomorrow to look for a used coil (hint: used coil wanted...). I also measured the resistance across the points (with the points open) and with the coil disconnected it was now infinite. The only other question I have right now is that there was another condenser hooked up between + on coil and chassis ground. What is the purpose of this condenser - to eliminate radio noise? Can I forgo installing this with a replacement coil? BTW i checked the resistance on this condenser as well (given that it connects to both + and -), but it was infinite, so I guess it's good.
