I'm looking to upgrade the original generator in my 67 122S with something a bit more suited to the current era. The old generator can hold it's own to a point, but I see my red, low power led quite a bit and have my doubts about long term.
My search for 140 and 160 models in the St. Louis boneyards has been fruitless, however I did stumble across a 1973 245 Fuel Injected B20 with AC nearly complete engine. From reading the IPD alternator upgrade instructions, I know that a 145 w/ AC is recomended as a source of an alternator. Can anyone comment on that? I'd like to go grab the alternator off the '73 (as it's the older volvo that's available for parts), but I worry that it might not be compatable. Any thoughts or experiences?
I also have a fine alternator off my 1986 740 GLE, but I suspect that I'd run into form-factor issues. Plus side is that I already have that Alternator.
Also, Any comments on the SWEM alternator Bracket ($100.00) vs. the IPD alternator bracket ($50.00)?
