I have used both the IPD and the SWEM kit. The biggest problem I have had is that the alternator belt does not quite line up causing wear and a squeky belt which is then tightened to much causing the cheap alternator housing to oval out and toast the alternator. I have also had both the IPD and the SWEM bracket brake after many miles. It is a great upgrade however when using modern lights, etc. The other problem is that the cheap GM alternators were not designed to spin at 4000 rpm for long periods of time like an old volvo on the highway does. I once made it through six in a row all on the one year NAPA warranty. (They loved seeing me walk through the door).
Despite all this, I still have put one in all four cars.

p.s. this has been my experience and any failures have no negative implications on the manufactures.
