Have you considered modifying your gasoline engine for more MPG? Swapping to a diesel is rather extreme.

A B20 equipped with a good head & 5-speed gearbox isn't that bad on fuel. My low compression B20B with 4.10 diff & 0.75 overdrive gets 400 miles/tank on the open road, 300 around town. It's a 142, so an P1800 would be better.
