The excess heat could be causing vapor lock. 140-160

In addition to the timing issue, if the mixture is too rich, carbon could be building up on the plugs and causing the dieseling.

Check that your choke is fully open when running warm. There might be Stromberg carbs, so I know nothing particular of them, other than I'm sure they have a choke mechanism. That late a model, it might be an automatic choke.

Maybe a rich mix causes overheat, but I would also check other cooling system functions. other than a leak, not much is apparent from visual inspection, though.
Clogged radiator, bad thermostat, common problems.
