Jim, when I do remove the covers is there anything I need to worry about in terms of fuel being in the bowls? Does it simply evaporate after a few hours or drain back out somehow? I am always reluctant to play with screwdrivers around metal objects that cohabitate with petrol.

My goal is to learn how the float level works and make sure the valves are not sticking. I bought some carb cleaner for this purpose.
