I would make the upgrade and then see how it goes. I have stock alternator on my 71 and have foglamps, radio, etc.
I never have any problems. Just make sure that you have a good battery- perhaps the next time you buy a battery, go up in capacity by a few amps.
Just make sure the sucker fits on the battery shelf.
