Ken,

Some of us is cheap or some of us like to learn something with the investment of time and the risk of failure. All of the tank pumps I have replaced have been purchased at the pick 'n' pull. One thing a tank pump won't do is leave you stranded.

But, if your aim is just to fix the car and you'd rather drive than be fixing it, by all means, get a new one. Chances are the new one is better than the old one.
