I am sure that in my case the sound is not coming from the brakes. I suspect you are right about the rear end and torque. I can make the sound happen most of the time if I start out in 2nd gear instead of 1st. Although I think it would be a lack of torque rather than too much. I am not sure, I was never too good at physics.
