Gary,

That little score mark on the bottom about 1/3 of the way in is exactly like the one you'll get trying to shove a cam past a bearing that was deformed during installation, or is otherwise tight.

I spent a half hour this afternoon honing a brand new one that wanted to do that, in fact. I've had this happen several times. Why it's always the front one, I don't know.
