Tell that to my car. She gets 14 mpg on the open road at about 65mph. Your 740 would have to have 5 adults and a 22 ft loaded trailer to match that. Don't forget the BW35 does not have a 4th gear or locking torque converter.
Granted, I should be getting about 18mpg, which was normal for that time period. I still have work to do.
