Yep... basically, Dana 30 rears in Volvos with drum brakes are not normal... my guess is that they (Volvo) had a bunch of 10 spline axles leftover, and commissioned dana to make their 30 model rear end accomodate those axles.

Any Volvo with rear disc brakes and a Dana 30 will have the 'normal' 27 spline axles. Another reason 1800e rear ends are nice for folks with late 122s... they get disc brakes, and limited slip is easily available.
