Two things come to mind. First, be sure ALL the battery cables have clean and tight terminals on both ends of each cable.

Secondly, I think I recall having a starter which had a sector of the armature open up when hot. It was on a K-car, but a starter is pretty much the same on any car. I had to replace the starter. It was a Bosch starter!
