Silly remote starter question 140-160 1973

That's what I wound up doing. I hooked up the trigger, and I could hear the solenoid whir, but the starter wouldn't engage.

Red clip on one big bolt (battery positive cable) and the other clip on the other big bolt, si?

Or does the black clip go elsewhere?
