You might replace the thermostat making certain that the air bleed passage is at the highest point to prevent air entrainment.

Some vehicles require jacking the front end up so that the coolant forces any air bubbles to the highest point being the radiator.

I always turn the heater on maximum and note whether or not heat is blowing out of the vents.

Cold air with high or normal gauge readings means an air pocket or bubble in the system.

Seldom a problem on Volvos that I've owned!
