Thermostats do wear out and cost only $10 or so. A new one is recommended, installed as the FAQ notes with the bleed valve up. While filling, loosen the thermostat housing nuts to allow some air out and move the heater temperature selector to "hot". Fill through the coolant expansion tank until coolant drips out the housing, then snug the nuts down. Start the car and let it warm up. Test the top hose to make sure it is hot. Drive it around, watching the temp gauge, then let it cool down. Top off the coolant and you are fine.
