My rear sway bar did not have any vertical links, like the ones on the front sway bar, but instead the horns of the sway bar were bolted (with bushings and reinforcing plates) drirectly to the body pan, therefore not able to "scoot to the side" and the lateral loading was going directly through these connections and not through the panhard rod. Not only emperically proven fit for the loading (once discovered the issue, I ran the car without the panhard rod with great effect) but I can also assure that these connections are also structurally adequate in shear. I belive that it woudl be very worthwhile to install (retrofit if necessary) a pair of links between the body pan and the sway bar to provide a flexible rather than rigid connection, and the bar will still act in torsion.
