No brainer: if you follow the FAQ instructions, you will keep your tranny in good shape at a cost of 12 quarts or so. If you do not first drain and refill the pan, then it would indeed take around 30 quarts to completely flush the tranny. Highly recommended: Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF for both tranny and power steering.
