David,
Yes, the Haynes has the relay inputs reversed, and appears to be from the UK book, where fuses don't match U.S. cars either. Nor does it (or the Michell) show the microswitch at all—in the solenoid coil ground path. So I'd say ignore the Haynes (I wasted my $$, IMO).
The Michell has the relay wires right, but also omits the microswitch. My diagram is as follows:
Solenoid ground side, Brown wire to Microswitch
From Microswitch, Black wire to C139 pin 4 ("Connector at gear selector, 4-pin")
From C139-4, Black wire to ground buss 31/31 on Relay Rack
Does the Shift Lock relay pick when brake pedal switch closes? and put voltage on its output pin 3? (Brown wire headed for the Solenoid coil + side)
Or, jumping ahead to the solenoid, does its + terminal (White wire) get voltage when brake pedal switch closes? If yes to that, then the ground side Microswitch would be suspect.
Let me know if you need detail on the relay wiring.
P.S. I've not yet had to prowl in that area. What are the possibilities of just removing or neutering the damned solenoid in some way?
