Generic Problem....Volvo 'related' 140-160

You have a catalytic converter on that car no doubt, and that's why you don't see much oil smoke, unless it gets overloaded at idle when its temperature drops off and the manifold pressure pulls more oil in past the rings and valve guides. These engines are notorious for this, and the solution is simple - rebuild it. It's piston rings, and everything else unfortunately.
It's not even worth testing further really.
