no start after engine work

Are you using the marks on the engine case, or the marks on the belt?

Also, I assume that since you have the pulley off, you're using the mark on the crank sprocket rather than the pulley mark. (On the two-piece harmonic balancers, sometimes the outer ring slips on the rubber isolation ring which renders the timing mark useless.)

You say you smell fuel. I wonder if there is any way you may have plumbed the fuel lines wrong such that you're getting unregulater fuel pressure to the injectors. I don't know if that is even possible to do.
