I once had a starter that would be unresponsive only after long highway cruises. It turned out to be a bad connection in the small braided cable just visible at the starter terminals. The cable runs to inside the starter so disassembly is required to make a proper repair.
As a temporary fix a short legnth of insulated wire with eye connections on each end was made. One end was attached to the exposed terminal and a screw was driven through the other eye and into the braided cable where it goes through a rubber grommet into the starter. Worked for me.
Good luck. My sincerest respect goes to those who regularly use their cars _and_ keep their engine bays clean. I well know the feeling of looking into the bay a day after cleaning only to find everything coated with a fine spray of oil.
Best regards,
