82 Fuel pump relay problem found and solved

Hi JDS,

Very interesting. I've had bad crimps on socket fastons, bad solder on circuit boards and even drowned relays, but never, yet, have I needed to get my burnishing tool between the relay contacts proper in a Volvo. How exactly, I wonder, did you use the multimeter to indict the relay, in circuit seeing a voltage drop, or unplugged using the Rx1 scale? Guess it pays to remember the basics, and that the simplest explanation is always the best.

Speaking of risking rush hour traffic. I thought I had one fixed last Saturday. Took it for a spin around the block and decided it should follow me home "to the shop" for a long needed maintenance session. Turned out to be a traffic hazard after about 15 minutes on the expressway. I managed to limp it along to one of my kids' home until I can come back and fix it right.
