A/C compressor just failed... 700

In my experience the conversions are just fine.

Buy the Volvo kit ($70-ish) for the 7 series cars assuming it has not been previously converted. That way you get all you need and a clean new receiver/dryer which ought to eliminate a lot of the contamination from the old system.

Still needs to have a good vacuum pulled on it, and you'll probably have to replace o-rings throughout the system. Do it right, and you'll be much happier with the results.

A/C is never cheap unfortunately.

A junkyard compressor is a possibility if you can find one that spins free and looks healthy (not a lot of black oil on the front of it, for starters).
