Hi, I knew in time this question would rear it`s ugly head. I had an expensive time 6 months ago when I had a none standard cat fitted. The cat was half price compared to the Volvo one £380 to £850GBP but the fitter put a universal o2 sensor in the cat which the car didn`t like, it belched out black smoke and did about 12 miles to an english gallon. After going to a proper Volvo dealer,he put in two new o2 sensors (of which the wires are longer than the universal type ,so no joins in the wires) and hey presto no black smoke and 30 miles per gallon on the motorway at 70 mph. Apparently to join the wires on the universal ones causes some resistance which alters the voltage and subsequently the mixture control. So all in all it cost me about £300GBP just for proper volvo o2 sensors instead of £45 for the universal one. By the way the cheap cat is great.
