First... it is not a high failure design. And there are certainly worse pumps to have to replace (can you spell Oldsmobile Rocket V8?). Second, you can remove the bolt at the back of the water tube to replace that seal you cursed without pulling the pump again. Third, the red block has gaskets/seals on two planes. The push-in tube; (a) doesn't count as same sealing system, (b) is on the same plane as the paper pump-to-block gasket.
