Thanks Rob. I did definitely have the harness rot. It wasn't too extensive, but with all the stuff I've seen here on the site, I didn't want to take any chances so I replaced almost all of it with a new one. $$$ I should have rerouted the "valley of death" stuff under the pulley but didn't think about it. Other parts of the wiring I unwrapped/uncovered and checked pretty well too.
My FP relay still looks good. Replaced it about two years ago just because.
I sure am hoping that the Hall sensor is the culprit but I'm a little worried because before I broke the plastic housing, I could wiggle the connection all day and not get it to effect anything. Of course though now that it's broken when I wiggle it, it makes the connection and picks the FP relay and runs the pump. You can hear it trying to make a good connection but I just can't keep it in exactly the right position to verify that is THE problem.
When you changed your distributor did you change out the sensor or use the one with the new distributor? Just wondering if changing the sensor is as tough as the FAQ's make it sound.
That two pin connector has me stumped though. I'm wondering if it was gotten rid of before I got the car. Or maybe like you said the 86 might be a little different.
Thanks again!
