My 89 240 DL wagon's rust problem is getting out of control so I think it's time to replace it. I've been looking for a 240 on and off for a while now but it's hard to find one in decent shape for a reasonable price - the ones that are any good all seem to be $5k plus. So as much as I love the 240's I am thinking of moving to a 740 or 940, both of which are much more reasonably priced and obviously more modern design.
Any thoughts on 740 vs 940? Years to look at and years to avoid? What about turbos - are these problematic or relatively trouble free (I have 3 Saab turbos so am familiar with turbos in general). I will do most of my own work on the car so ease of maintenance is a consideration. Anybody else made the switch from a 240 to a 740/940? Did you miss the character of the old brick or was it a relatively painless transition?
