Motor Update. 120-130

I would not worry about the "pithy residue". You might pour a little kerosene
down there to "swill" it out, especially if the bottom of the pan is not caved
up. But the screen on the oil pump will probably keep it out OK, and if not
the oil filter will get it. You should probably examine the cylinder bores
rather carefully to make sure that they are not the source of the mix of
coolant and oil. They WERE in the one serious case I had. Unfortunately
you can only examine the top 3.15" of them without pulling the pan. But that
is usualy enough. It gets hottest at the top.
Avoid scrambling the lifters. (If they are OEM you will probably not be able
to get them out easily anyway.)
