Engine runs backward 140-160 1972

You are saying the engine runs backwards after you shut it off right?
In other words the engine is "running on?"
WOT with the throttle closed means a vacuum leak somewhere.
Big cloud of smoke may be the engine regurgitating if it is indeed running backwards.
Sounds to me like Indie missed something, had a bad gasket, didn't hook up the booster, maybe left off a vacuum line.
I have a hard time believing a new ign. switch and points were the problem.
Is this car injected? Maybe the aux. air valve is not sealing.
