Minor Update 140-160

I spent major time this evening fine tuning the carbs and timing *after* I regapped the valve lash (.018-.020).

The deiseling has diminished quite a bit, but I'm still having a lot of trouble with the carbs and timing. Setting the timing above or below 0 TDC cause the motor to race or stumble at idle, and while on the road, make some really troublesome noises. Since my greenbook says 10 BTDC, I tried that for a bit. I also tried 20 BTDC and 10 ATDC, as well as 5 BTDC as my haynes manual suggested. It just doesn't seem to want to behave at anything other than 0 TDC.

I'm now pretty concerned about my carbs, #1 (which was fully rebuilt) is being really flakey. I can't get the idle down under 1000 reliably. The butterfly is not sticking as far as I can tell, but it absolutely will not adjust any lower. This is really odd, because the #2 carb (not rebuilt) will adjust much lower, but never seems to be getting enough fuel to prevent a stall. Added to this is that my #1 carb return spring broke and eveything I try to wire it up causes some interference.

Looks like I'll have to removed them both yet again and take them to the bench.
I'm really seriously looking at the complication of rigging up a throttle switch and fuel return line for a D-jet conversion...
