blinkers not blinking S90-V90

I had this problem in a 96 960 for a while and then it cleared itself up. Hasn't done it since. I checked with Volvo for the turn signal flasher and according to the parts guy it is incorporated into the 4 way flasher switch. For about $60 I could change it and find out if that would fix the problem. I declined. Maybe that's why when you excercise the 4 way the turn signals work again.
