I bought a Actron scanner from Advance Auto last year -cost around 150.00
Best tool in my tool box now-has saved me alot of dough in the last year with all our cars. It will read the codes and then you make the fix then you can erase codes for the check engine light to go out. If you just take the car in the way it is now-more than likely the code will not erase until the problem has bee eradicated.
