the VDO speedometer on my 911 has a ridicules reduction setup. I reset the odometer with the car rolling just a bit (pulling into the gas pump) and it too sheared off a gear. Upon inspection the old gear was quite mushy. the new one was much stronger but yes for what ever reason the plastic on the VDOs do not seem to hold out so well to the test of time.

Thank God that I can do these things on my own ($25) for parts, instead of having to pay someone else ($150 min)!
