Keep in mind the tough Volvo Red-block.
The B18D in my '66 used oil to the extent that it poured out the rear main as I filled it... or at least that's a close enough analogy. 1/2qt in 30miles on 20wt/50. Idled great, vicious blowby, but it didn't smoke out the tailpipe once warm.

The '74 is loosing it somewhere too, and about as fast as yours; equally mysterious. Doesn't leak much and no blowby or smoke.

Post your compression numbers when you get them if you would be so kind. It will be interesting to compare when I get around to mine.
