been having a lot of trouble with my car. 1989 740 Turbo with 352k miles. It started right after I went through a pretty bumpy road, Im not sure if it has to do with the problem or it was just coincidental. The car would start to almost stutter with the RPMs going crazy from zero to normal and finally just dieing. I would stay parked on the side of the road for a bit and got the car to go again and it got me home. Then the next morning the same thing happened with even less running time.
We, my brother and I, checked for any visible wire damage and any ripped or loose tubes. Changed the spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor, distributor cap, and the ignition module. Still the same problem. the car wouldnt start or would start but only for a brief moment with an episode of the RPMs jumping across the board from nothing to normal till it just gives up and not start at all. just cranks
So we tested the ignition coil. We wouldn't get a spark from the spark plug wire that goes in to the distributor at first. Then we changed the ignition module and started to get one, whether that changed anything im not sure because after connecting it back in to the distributor the car would struggle but start for a moment then have the same problem with the rpms. Then we tested the spark again and would get nothing.
The sparks being very inconsistent and I'm not really sure what could be the problem. We've checked all the sensors we could find and tried cleaning them and didnt find any evident problem with a loose wire unless we happened to miss it.
I don't think its the ignition coil but Im not really sure.
The fuses seem to be working fine too. tested them.
Any help would be appreciated
