Points melting 120-130

The reason Phil asked why you would run such a hot coil is there is no reason to. The spark plug will pull as much energy as it needs to arc the gap and no more. You can use the coil but there will be no gains in MPG nor HP.

Straight from the first page of the Installation Instructions:

Note: This Blaster Coil Kit is intended to be used with an MSD Ignition. If installing on a stock,
points style ignition system, a 0.8 ohm ballast resistor or resistor wiring MUST be
installed. MSD offers this Ballast Resistor as PN 8214 or the Blaster Coil Kits, PN 8200
and 8203 are equipped with one.

WARNING: Failure to use a ballast resistor could result in personal injury or component
failure.


That last bit sounds like the coil might spill it's guts if you continue to run it without a ballast resistor.
