122 odometer gear pics 120-130

Here are some pics of how the instrument cluster was disassembled. At the end is the odometer gear assembly. There are plastic gears in the odometer and trip odometer. It would be a good idea to have a spare cluster or two for spare parts to get your odometer working again.

Cluster Front

Cluster Back

Pry the chrome trim at bottom to release from cluster.

Might have to pry the side of the chrome trim too.

Lift the bezel and plexiglass shield off (no fasteners on this part it is just held in place by the chrome trim.

Remove the small screws at the end of the black speedo shield.

And the little one in the middle and take off the black speedo shield.

Remove the two small screws to get the odometer plexiglass sheild off.

Remove the fuel gauge by unscrewing in back and finageling the parallelogram through the square opening.

Remove the speedometer stop arm and pull the speedo drum.

Remove the screws for the cable drive, odometer and trip odometer.

Drive shaft between cable drive and odometer.

Drive shaft between odometer and trip odometer.

Note thrust washer on left end of both drive shafts.

Detail of return spring assembly on end of speedometer drum. Tension appears to be factory set and non adjustable.

Hope this helps picture what is needed for your odometer repair.

More later on the other questions when time allows.
