I don't know that you would see any noticeable difference in mileage. It might, however, affect how long the points last, etc.

"Re-curving" the mechanical advance in the distrubutor can have a significant effect on performance, but it can be tricky business. It's kind of a trial and error process, and best done by someone with one of those distributor set-up machines.

Can you bump the timing to 12 btdc without pinging?
