After my son got home from school he helped bleed the clutch hydraulic system. The fluid coming out was greyish with black specs -- ew. About a half cup of new fluid was flushed through before clear fluid was seen at the bleeding end.
Test with one rear wheel in air was successful. No wheel spin with gear engaged and clutch out. Free wheel spin with clutch depressed and trans in any gear.
Test drive was okay. Its still a little notchy getting into 1st and 2nd. Its also a bit notchy downshifting into 2nd or 3rd. The car is quite drivable though and will return to service tomorrow.
I suspect that a new clutch master cylinder might clear things up altogether. There is no apparent loos of fluid on either end. Isn't it possible that some compression is being lost around the master cylinder piston?
Thanks for the bleeding suggestion mate. I guess it should have been done a few years ago when we got the car.
