My first 444-544

Assuming it has its original engine and electrical system, you have a B16 - B18/B20 fuel pumps don't fit properly. B16 fuel pump rebuild kits are available from Olaf:

I purchased one within the last couple months; quality was good. Not cheap.

If the car is still 6 volt, a 12 volt electric pump won't work. To use an electric pump, you'll want to be sure it's a 6 volt pump - and then use a pressure regulator for the reasons George states.
