No start before or after Weber conversion 140-160

Hello,

Sort of a long post, but just want to get all the info out there:

A couple of months ago when I pulled the 142 in the driveway, the car stalled out. Closer inspection revealed that my old HS6 SU's had lost some pieces somewhere along the road, never to be found again. The car refused to start. So I decided to give the Weber DGV a shot. I bought a professionally refurbed manifold and carb from Ebay and installed it. The Volvo still wouldn't start. I thought perhaps the carb was bad, so I bought a second one from a "great running car". Again, no start.

The 142's starter will turn over just fine, fuel is pumping to the carb, but the thing just will not start. I cleaned the existing spark plugs and tried another set. I set the idle and mixture screws to the correct setting. I played around with the timing, but no go. I made sure fuel was getting into the carb and that it was tightly installed without vacuum leaks. The vehicle was running quite well two months ago, and the new Pertronix system was operating perfectly.

Sometimes, though rarely, the engine will chug once or twice and then die. Oddly, it will sometimes chug over after I turn the key back from the "start" position.

I'm starting to run out of patience. Any info would be much appreciated.
