Thanks for the suggestions. After posting the message, I checked to make sure I hadn't somehow messed up the firing order as I had earlier examined the dizzy internals. I happened to glance at the spark plug wire boot going to cylinder #1 and it appears that the metal spring that is supposed to touch the plug had gone missing. I have those expensive type plug wires with the "floating" boot. So I ordered a set of the standard wires and will see if they do the trick. That would explain the problem I suppose, as one or two (seemingly random) cylinders might fire until it came upon the dead one and quit altogether. One thing is for sure, I am done with those floating wires. I prefer the solid feel, look, and "click" of the old standbys. If that doesn't do it, I'll have to check into your recommendations. I was planning on replacing that original particle board style timing gear anyway. Thank you and I'll keep you posted.
