The Volvo service manual which refers to your project (Body Fittings, etc) outlines a specific procedure, which involves shaping a soldering iron to facilitate hot-cutting the butyl tape used to seal the glass in place. If you're interested in going this route, I could scan the 3 pages of instructions and email them to you direct. Let me know what you think - there're a few good hints here if you want a truly professional result.
